The Congregational Care Committee offers its various ministries
of caring which include making contact with members through phone
calls and cards sent. The Committee meets monthly on the fourth
Monday. The Chair of the committee is Pat Dyer.
A significant aspect of the Committee's work has been the Visitation Program
. This is under the capable leadership of Bob and Elisabeth Phillips, as Coordinators. Home
Church members receive instruction and then visit in the homes of our members.
We have over 20 faithful members who make at least one visit every two months.
In addition, a number of "phone visits" have also been made keeping
members "connected" with what is happening at Home Church.
Our Home Church "Prayer Tree" is in full operation with Hessie Williams, as Coordinator. Prayer concerns are given to the pastors
who relay them to the Coordinator, who then sends the prayer request by phone. Prayer
Tree members pray for the concern and pass it to the next person on the list. Over
twenty Home Church members pray faithfully for non-confidential concerns given
to the pastors.
This group meets every Thursday at 2:00 P.M. at Salemtowne Retirement Community.
Prayers are offered for individuals, groups and causes in the church, community
and the world.
Members of Home Church meet on Wednesday afternoons to knit prayer shawls which are taken
to members and friends who are lifted up in prayer. www.shawlministry.com
The "Curbside Service" program is where men of the church assist members
and visitors in getting from their vehicles to the
sanctuary
prior to the 10:00 A.M. service. This program, under the leadership of Graham
Smith, fills an important need.
Our transportation ministry is working very well. Volunteers drive the church
mini-bus once a quarter to transport residents of Salemtowne and the Belo Home
to the 10:00 A.M. Sunday worship service. Also, transportation is provided for
evening Holy Week services and for Christmas Lovefeast services. This ministry
is very much appreciated by the participants.
The Stephen Ministry Program continues to offer one-on-one confidential care
and encouragement to members who are in a variety of difficult situations. Four
trained Stephen Leaders and eight active trained Stephen Ministers offer caregiving
and help to members in need. Stephen Ministers are members of the congregation
who are trained to offer confidential, caring attention from a Christian perspective
to other members and friends in times of crisis or transition. Service
is a two-year commitment and the training program covers approximately 50 hours.
