It's Our Time. It's Our Home.
The Capital Campaign for Home Moravian Church
Introduction
The Trustees and Elders of Home Moravian Church have voted to undertake a Capital Campaign to fund vital current and futureneeds of the church including a new Heating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system, updates and renovations to the sanctuary, Fellowship Hall and other areas of the church, as well as funding of ministries beyond those at Home Church. The firm of Whitney Jones, Inc. conducted a campaignsurvey during September and October 2008 to assess the Church’s ability to provide funding for the project via a capital campaign in late 2008 and early 2009. Whitney Jones presented findings of the campaign survey to Campaign Planning Committee members and additional church leadership on November 12, 2008.

Home Church
Home Moravian Church was officially established as the Moravian congregation of Salem on November 13, 1771. For over two hundred years, Home Moravian Church has stood on the northeast corner of Salem Square. When construction was begun in 1798, the Christian community of Salem had less than three hundred members, and covering building costs challenged the town’s financial resources. Yet the faith of the congregation persevered, and in the winter of 1800, the new brick Home Church building was consecrated.
Today Home Church has a membership of over 650 families, a dedicated ministerial and office staff, and an operating budget just over $1.4million. The church is known in the community for its beautiful, historic church building, a varied congregation of warm and caring members, for outreach in the community, for its tradition of music ministry and for its special seasonal worship services.
Home Church Ministries
Education:
The Christian education ministry of Home Moravian Church seeks to bring people of all ages into a growing relationship with God by offering dynamic programs in Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry and Adult Ministry.
Music:
Moravians have a rich musical heritage, and the congregation of Home Church is no exception. Home Church has a strong music ministry program, the purpose of which is to provide music leadership that gives glory to God for worship services and special events throughout the year. Musicians lead the congregation in song, giving freely of their musical skills according to their God-given abilities.
Community Outreach:
Home Church believes that personal service is a part of the responsibility of every Christian, and the congregation’s challenge is to feed the hungry, heal the sick, clothe the naked, teach the gospel, and witness to the faith. In addressing that challenge, Home Church members regularly provide funding and volunteer support to a number of ministries and agencies in the community including Crisis Control Ministry, Senior Services, Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Habitat for Humanity, Food Bank of NW NC, Trinity Center, The Enrichment Center, Samaritan Ministries, AIDS Care Service, Prodigals Community, The Shepherd’s Center, Bethesda Center, Sims Center-Happy Hill, Forsyth Jail and Prison Ministry, Yokefellow Prison Ministry, Sunnyside Ministry, among others.
Congregational Care:
Home Church has an active ministry of caring for its own members through programs such as Visitation, Prayer Tree, Intercessory Prayer Group, Prayer Shawl Ministry, Curbside Service and Transportation Ministry.

Work in Progress with the Campaign
Work has already begun on installing the new HVAC system and the sanctuary pews have begun to exit the building for their restoration. Many things are under way and every day seems to bring something new. Some photographers are very busy documenting the work in progress and their work is available for you to view. Summary
Home Moravian Church has been showered with God’s blessings for many generations—nearly 240 years! It has been blessed with an active, generous congregation, a dynamic staff and ministerial team and a beautiful, historic church. The Capital Campaign represents a significant undertaking for Home Church, but not unlike generations in the past that gave sacrificially to build the first brick building. And although campaign objectives are stated in terms of mechanical equipment, renovations, updates and furnishings, it is important to remember that the true and ultimate purpose of this campaign is to ensure the preservation, growth and vitality of Home Church in order that its members can continue God’s work for many generations to come.
