Men of the Church Greeting Cards

COMING SOON....Christmas Cards
Designed and produced by the Men of Home Church. Card front features Home Church Christmas scenes that we all know and cherish. The inside has a genuine Moravian verse.   Available early summer 2010.

The Men of the Church have created greeting cards using photographic reproductions of our beautiful stained glass windows. These cards are blank inside, so they may be used for all occasions. You provide your own expressions, such as: thank you, birthday, anniversary, friendship, get well, sympathy, etc. These cards are on sale in the Home Church office and the Moravian Book and Gift Shop for $15.00 a box of 10 cards and envelopes.

Our beautiful stained glass windows were installed in the 1912-13 renovation of our sanctuary. The original sanctuary with its small, clear glass windowpanes was dedicated on November 9, 1800. The stained glass windows were produced by J& R Lamb Studios, which is the oldest continuously operating ecclesiastical art and stained glass concern in the United States. These windows represent the development of a highly specialized combination of external layered stained glass and careful artistic painting on the interior of the windows. The windows at our church are the largest known collection of Lamb’s early artistic work.

Eight of the ten windows depict scenes of the main events in the life of Jesus Christ. Four tell of His early life and ministry (“The Nativity”, “The Flight into Egypt”, “The Boy Jesus in the Temple”, and “Christ and the Children”) and four depict the Easter Passion (“Christ in Gethsemane”, “The Crucifixion”, “The Resurrection”, and “The Ascension”). The two windows not in historical sequence are “Christ Knocking at the Door” and “The Good Shepherd”. All ten windows are based on early eighteenth century Moravian traditions in which Pastors used oil easel paintings, created by Johann Valentin Height and other Moravian artists, to “illustrate” their sermons. These “gifts of light” have inspired countless thousands of visitors, as well as those who regularly worship at the Church.

All proceeds from sales of these cards are for the benevolent needs of the Outreach Programs of the Men of the Church.

We thank Richard Henderson for coming up with the idea for the cards, John Dyer who photographed the stained glass windows and Mark Goslen for his printing input.
