Rev. Amy Rio has been chaplain of Salem Academy and College since 2007. A native of the Asheville area, she received her Bachelor of Arts from Greensboro College, Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School (1992), and Doctor of Ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary (2009), where her focus was Spirituality and Story. 

Amy is an ordained United Methodist minister. Her teaching and pastoral interests include Women and Spirituality, Interfaith Engagement, Nature and Spirituality, and reclaiming the history of women in religion. Prior to coming to Salem, Amy served as a Campus Minister at both UNC-Greensboro and UNC-Asheville.

When she entered the ministry in 1992, Amy began by pastoring local churches in the Asheville area. Amy is mom to Caleb, who works with the outdoors industry in the Utah Rockies, and Ava, who is a junior at Meredith College majoring in exercise and sports science.
