3rd Annual Women’s Retreat
September 15-17, 2017
Higgins Lodge, Laurel Ridge Conference Grounds

Come explore the theme,
“Pray Without Ceasing?”
With our leader, Fran Saylor

“In prayer it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart.”
—Mahatma Ghandi

Fran Saylor.jpgIn his teaching on prayer, Jesus assures his disciples that God knows what we need even before we ask. The apostle Paul in his teaching on prayer exhorts us all to “pray without ceasing.” If God already knows all of our needs and the needs of the world, why do we need to pray? And how are we supposed to “pray without ceasing” when our days and nights are already so busy with all of the other aspects of life to which we must attend?

Come to the mountain for a time apart with your sisters in Christ as together we explore the answers to these questions and more! Using scripture as our guide, as well as the teachings of Flora Slosson Wuellner, Cynthia Bourgeaux, Brother Lawrence, Teresa of Avila, Zinzendorf, and one another, we will discover ways to expand our understandings of prayer and how prayer opens our hearts to God and all of God’s creation. Also, there will be lots of time for laughter, fellowship, play, and anything else that you may want to do on or around the mountain.

  • The retreat begins with dinner on Friday night and concludes with lunch on Sunday.
  • Cost per person: $160 (double), $250 (single) includes room, 6 meals and retreat leadership. A $50 non-refundable deposit is required at registration. Scholarship aid is available.
  • Download a registration form. For further information, please contact Katrina Bodford at kbodford@arboracres.org or 336-924-4039

Fran is a candidate for ordained ministry in the Moravian Church. She graduated from Salem College, first with a B.A. in a self-designed major in Studio Art and Communications and later with a Certificate in Early Childhood Education. After several years of teaching, volunteering in her sons’ schools in the Raleigh community and serving as a certified church educator at Raleigh Moravian Church, she answered God’s call to ordained ministry. A graduate of Duke Divinity School and Moravian Theological Seminary, Fran, her husband Scott, and their adult sons, Adam and Hartman, are members of Raleigh Moravian Church.

Fran is certainly no stranger to our congregation. She was a guest preacher at morning worship in late 2016 and speaker at this year’s Day of Prayer service. We’re excited to have Fran join us again in September!!
