Youth News

Join us after service for our Youth Power Hour! We’ll be discussing 8 questions about God that you might be scared to ask like, “Does the Bible contradict itself,” and “Does God discriminate against women?” If that sounds interesting to you, head up to the third floor after worship for food, fellowship, and conversation! Power Hour is every Sunday from 11:15 to 12!

Our youth will be washing graves on Good Friday, March 29, as a service project for families who are not able to. Contact Jane Shore at 336-722-6171 or jshore@homemoravian.org with the names and location of the graves to be washed. All requests for grave washing need to be in the church office by noon on Monday, March 25.

Scripture Meditation

What shall I return to the Lord for all his bounty to me? —Psalm 116:12

This question is a good one to sit with and meditate on.

We have been blessed with so much. Truly I can’t list the number of beautiful things in life that God has given me, so how in the world can I truly thank God for that? What can I do in return? I’ve been thinking about it and, at least for me, the answer is devotion.

I’m good at expressing my love for God when I’m in the right setting. During worship, it’s quite easy to remember how good God is and feel in touch with all the blessings I’ve been given. When I talk to a friend about Jesus, it’s not difficult to feel my gratitude for his salvation.

And yet, when I’m making my coffee in the morning, or getting frustrated in traffic, or going on a walk, I find my thoughts aren’t on God. Sometimes they are. I think, “Wow, I’m so grateful that God created birds to sound just like that and crafted my skin to feel the sun’s warmth in just this way.” Often, though, my mind is on all the other things in life that seem to come first. For me, that’s not enough to thank God for God’s goodness.

When God has given us everything, we must make God a part of everything. We need to let God seep into every aspect of our lives. We must find where God fits into all of it, even the parts that don’t seem “Godly.”

When we let devotion to God center everything, it becomes simpler to recognize just how much we have to be thankful for.
