Moravian Coffee

Moravian coffee is served at lovefeasts and some meals held in Fellowship Hall. It is brewed in large urns with cream and sugar added during the brewing process. At lovefeasts the coffee is served with buns. Moravian coffee is also served, along with Moravian sugarcake, to visitors during Candle Tea, an annual event sponsored by the Women’s Fellowship at the Single Brothers’ House in Old Salem.

Moravian coffee is so well known that it has become a welcoming symbol for the city and Old Salem. A large replica of a coffee pot (right) has stood near the northern boundary of Salem for more than 150 years.

A recipe for Moravian Coffee can be found in With Heart & Hand, a cookbook prepared by the Women's Fellowship. Contact the church office about getting a copy.
