27th Annual Men of the Church Fall Retreat
Plan now to attend the 27th Annual Men’s Retreat Oct. 4-6, 2019, at Laurel Ridge! Enjoy the mountain scenery, great fellowship and an enriching weekend together. The retreat will begin Friday evening, Oct. 6, and will conclude with lunch on Sunday. The Rev. Dr. Craig Atwood, Home Church member and former Theologian in Residence, will be our leader for the weekend.
Craig knows all things Moravian—or just about. If you hang around him long enough, not only will you learn a thing or two, but you just may catch his passion. Craig joined the faculty of Moravian College and Theological Seminary in 2010 and teaches courses in Moravian theology, Moravian history, the history of Christianity, religion in America, and history of Christian thought. Craig is best known for his books Community of the Cross: Moravian Piety in Colonial Bethlehem (Penn State, 2004) and Theology of the Czech Brethren from Hus to Comenius (Penn State, 2009). He is also the author of over fifty academic articles, chapters in books, encyclopedia articles, book reviews, and church publications.
October is a wonderful time of the year, and our beautiful Laurel Ridge Conference and Retreat Center will be the perfect setting for our weekend of activities. There will be plenty of free time for fun and fellowship! Saturday afternoon is open for golf at nearby West Jefferson, hiking, reading or simply relaxing.
A buffet dinner at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, will begin our evening and is included in the retreat fee. The first session will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Registration for the weekend is $175 for double occupancy and $220 for single accommodations. Delicious meals, refreshments and two nights’ lodging are included in the registration fee.
Please note that for new members of Home Church (Oct. 2018 through September 2019) registration will be ½ of the normal fee! This will be a great way to meet new friends and enjoy a wonderful weekend.
We had a great turnout last year, so register now and put the weekend on your calendar. More details will follow in the Men of the Church newsletter as well. Scholarship assistance is also available for the retreat. For more information contact Sam Matthews at 336-748-1066 (home) or 336-748-0217 (work).
