2018 School Tea
Nov. 28-30 & Dec. 4-7
9:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
School tour reservations for the 2018 Candle Tea are now open.
Please read this information carefully, then register or login below.
(Please read the introductory section about Candle Tea.)
The special “School Tea” in the historic Single Brothers House in Old Salem includes a candle-making demonstration, the putz, and insight into the life of the early settlers of Salem.
Each guest – both students and accompanying adults – receives a lovefeast candle and is served a Moravian cookie in the kitchen of the house, which was built more than 250 years ago. Visitors will hear about the early Moravians' daily activities, the earliest public water system in the United States, and how the young people in Salem were educated and the older boys learned a trade.
Reservations for school groups for the 2018 Candle Tea are now open! Public and private schools and home school groups are welcome.
If you are not already registered, please register by clicking the "Register" tab in the form below. As soon as you register, you will be taken to the Reservations page.
If you are already registered, log in and you will be taken to the Reservations page.
Note that groups for each time are limited by fire code to 35 persons.
New payment system this year: For your convenience, to ensure you get the date(s) and time(s) you want, and to help our busy volunteers track payments, non-refundable payment must be made online to complete and confirm your reservation. Payment is made through PayPal, which allows you to use a credit or debit card, or your own checking account (if you have a PayPal account).
Admission for each student and accompanying adult remains $1 (one dollar). After you reserve your tour(s), by email you will receive a PayPal receipt and, within a few days, a paid invoice with additional information.
Please note: Visiting Candle Tea and touring Old Salem buildings are two separate activities and are handled by two different groups. To schedule a separate tour of Old Salem on the same day you visit Candle Tea, please contact the Tour Coordinators at Old Salem by calling 800-441-5305 (no email). Also please note: There are different unloading places for Candle Tea and for tours of Old Salem. Please follow the directions given for unloading busses at the appropriate places.
Inclement weather policy: If the Winston-Salem Forsyth County schools or Old Salem close for the day or close early due to bad weather, the Candle Tea will also close. Check news media or call 336-729-9463 for a message.
For more information, email us or call 336-749-9463.
We look forward to seeing you at Candle Tea!
