Director of Christian Education
Job Description

Home Moravian Church seeks a full-time Director of Christian Education (DCE), responsible for organizing, coordinating, and implementing an effective year-around ministry of Christian formation for all ages. The DCE is staff liaison to the Christian Education (CE) Committee and reports to the Head of Staff (Senior Pastor). A commitment to regular Sunday and evening work is a requirement for this position.

Key Ministry Areas:

Sunday programming and other continuing educational opportunities for all ages

  • Seasonal events to coincide with the liturgical year (e.g. Vacation Bible School, Easter Egg hunt, Christian Education Sunday, Prayer Days for Children & Youth, Advent & Lenten formation opportunities)
  • Godly Play (a Montessori-based curriculum for children)
  • Communion education for children
  • Supervision of the Director of Youth Ministry and Nursery Supervisor

Administrative Expectations:

  • Work closely with the staff team to plan and lead ministries across congregational life
  • Attend meetings of the Board of Elders as a member of the program staff
  • Provide regular ministry-specific communications to the congregation
  • Participate in the Moravian Ministries Association and other provincial gatherings for Directors of Christian Education
  • Comply with all requirements and guidelines of the Home Church employee handbook, Child Protection policy, and photo permission procedures
  • Work with the CE Committee to develop and manage the CE budget
  • Continue the church’s Ministry Architects initiative for children and youth in partnership with the CE Committee

Compensation:

  • Starting base salary: $45,000-52,000; commensurate with experience

Director of Youth Ministry
Job Description

Home Moravian Church seeks a part-time Director of Youth Ministry. We are looking specifically for commitment to engage youth (grades 6-12) in discipleship, worship, mission, fellowship, social action, reflection, and building relationships.

The Director of Youth Ministry will foster engagement through weekly Sunday and Wednesday gathering opportunities, in addition to various trips, camps, mission projects, and special events that promote the mission and vision of Home Moravian Church.

In coordination with the Youth Ministry Team and other volunteers from the congregation, the Director of Youth Ministry will maintain the following additional responsibilities:

  • develop and train volunteers to lead and serve effectively with youth
  • plan programming to meet engagement goals
  • connect with youth to deepen their relationship with God and forge strong bonds with leaders, with each other, and the congregation
  • work with the Youth Ministry Team to develop and manage the youth budget
  • provide rising youth with opportunities to feel welcome
  • build relationships with the larger church community, including other Moravian Churches
  • attend to other tasks related to youth ministry
  • comply with all requirements and guidelines of the Home Church employee handbook, Child Protection Policy, and photo permission procedures

Time commitment: 20 hours a week on average. Approximately half of the time will be spent in direct engagement opportunities with youth. The remaining hours will be spent planning and working with the Youth Ministry Team and volunteers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree (any field)
  • minimum 23 years of age
  • experience leading and organizing students in a ministry setting
  • theology and practice consistent with the teachings of the Moravian Church
  • exemplary Christian model through teaching, discipling, and generosity

Nursery Supervisor

Job Description

 

Home Moravian Church seeks a part-time Nursery Supervisor for children from birth through age 3. 

 

The Nursery Supervisor will oversee and provide safe, secure, nurturing, clean, and efficient care to Home Moravian’s nursery children on Sunday mornings from 9 am-11:30 am. At present, there typically are three to six children in the nursery on Sunday mornings.

 

The Nursery Supervisor will oversee the following, completing and/or guiding the Nursery Assistant/s to:

 

  • Play with the children and/or direct play
  • Share a provided weekly Bible story
  • Exhibit patience and care for the children and parents
  • Work with diapering/restroom
  • Clean up and sanitize the area prior to departure
  • Attend training/information sessions (for compensation on an as-need basis)
  • Complete other tasks as needed
  • Under guidance of Director of Christian Education, coordinate work schedule for Nursery Assistant/s, Volunteers, and self to maintain coverage of two adults per week
  • Comply with all requirements and guidelines of the Home Moravian employee handbook, Child Protection Policy, and photo permission procedures

 

Time commitment:  3 hours a week on average.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in the care of children 0-3 years old
  • 21 years old or older

FACILITIES ASSISTANT – Part-time

Home Moravian Church

Job Description

 

General Statement of Duties:

As directed by the Facilities Manager, the Maintenance Staff provides custodial duties,  general maintenance, assistance in performing  repairs, and security services for all buildings and grounds of Home Moravian Church including the Bishop’s House, the parsonage, and church vehicles.

 

Reports to:

The Facilities Manager

 

Essential Functions of the Job:

1)     Functions with authority and responsibility in the absence of, or at the designation of, the Facilities Manager.

2)     Gives needed attention to daily facilities upkeep not designated to or carried out by the outsourced janitorial service, including areas rented to others (i.e., Montessori School, etc.)

3)     Provides assistance to the Facilities Manager in matters physically requiring two persons to complete tasks.

4)     Provides for designated grounds upkeep and maintenance (i.e., mowing, etc.)

5)     Works with the Facilities Manager as needed on room set-ups and break downs for church events.

6)     Works with the Facilities Manager on minor/regular building upkeep and repairs (i.e., painting, etc.)

7)     Works with Home Church staff team needs and requests for maintenance support.

8)     Provides daily/evening facilities presence for security and monitoring of the physical plant. Ensures defined security protocol is followed.

9)     Works designated weekend shifts for facilities maintenance rotation and presence.

10)  Any other tasks deemed necessary by the Facilities Manager.

 

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required:

This position requires an individual who has general building maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and custodial skills. Also has the ability work effectively with the Facilities Manager and the Home Church staff team.  Needs basic computer skills to understand, manage and operate computerized mechanical systems, i.e., HVAC, along with monthly budget management and communications.

Physical Requirements:

1)     Lifting – usually up to 50 lbs.

2)     Walking/Standing up to 80 % of the workday.

3)     Climbing as needed to perform/oversee maintenance jobs.

4)     Bending – as needed on the job.

Routine Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

1)     Assists Facilities Manager with daily/weekly/monthly custodial duties

  1. Trash removal
  2. Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms
  3. Moves and arranges chairs and tables as needed for events
  4. Incidental cleaning as needed
  5. Clean and disinfect water fountains as needed
  6. Performs annual/seasonal maintenance checklists to ensure buildings are properly heated/cooled during the appropriate season for services and events.
  7. Performs routine maintenance tasks related to building operating systems, i.e., changing filters, light bulbs, etc.
  8. Winds and adjusts the clock
  9. Rings bell

Compensation:  $15/hour
