Celebrate Kathy Barnes at her Retirement!

Home Church gives thanks for the long career of Kathy Barnes, who is retiring January 31. She has served our congregation since 1996 as a careful steward of our resources and a caring partner in ministry.

When Kathy joined our staff, she was a full-time student at Salem College majoring in accounting and business administration (as well as mother to a ten- and twelve-year old, and a part-time employee of Wachovia Bank!).  After working for HMC part-time for a year, Kathy graduated from Salem on a Saturday and became HMC’s full-time Treasurer/Administrator on the following Monday. That was 26 and ½ years ago!

Here is Kathy’s reflection on her service:

How do I summarize 26 & 1/2 years? Being able to work and worship at Home Church has always been a privilege, and I do not take for granted the opportunity I was given to serve in this way. I have been surrounded by a community that has supported me, encouraged me, strengthened me, and helped me grow in so many ways. I have been blessed with friendships of coworkers and church members alike, and will always hold these relationships and the ministry we did together in my heart. I have been challenged in my faith, and have always tried to serve Home Church as Christ would have me to, even in difficult times. I have especially enjoyed times when we as a congregation looked at ways to be good stewards of our funds in new and meaningful ways, thinking outside the box.

A reception to honor Kathy and her service to the church will be held Sunday, Feb. 5, in the parlor from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. Please come and greet Kathy and celebrate this new step in her life!

A love offering is open for those who wish to contribute as a gift to Kathy. You can make a check to the church, with “Kathy Barnes love offering” in the memo; or you can donate at homemoravian.org by clicking “Give Now” (bottom of the website), selecting the fund “misc.,” and adding “Kathy Barnes” in the memo line.

Kathy, we thank you for your love and faithful service. We wish you Godspeed and many blessings in the years to come!

From Jeff Carter: Cherry Street prison information

I am sponsoring a super bowl party for the men at Cherry Street prison. After worship service we plan to have the Super Bowl (February 12) streamed to our television sets downstairs and allow the men to watch the first half of the game in the chapel. I am asking for donations to give to the men. Donations may be pre-popped popcorn, packaged snacks and soda drinks (all snack donations must be prepackaged, store bought and all sodas must be in 2 liter plastic bottles). If you would like to bring the items by the Cherry Street chapel, you may bring them by any time, Monday – Thursday between 10am-4pm.
