Our Worship

Liturgies, Sacraments, Advent and Christmas, Easter, Lent and Holy Week, August 13th

Like many Protestant denominations, our worship services follow the church year and the common lectionary (assigned scripture lessons for each Sunday). We use liturgies in worship for the different seasons of the church year as well as topical liturgies on subjects such as education and mission. Our Moravian Book of worship contains our liturgies and hymns. Our music is a blend of traditional and recent compositions. A wide variety of musical instruments is used for worship services including pipe organ, piano, brass, bells, strings, woodwinds, flute, guitar and bongos. Our worship services are open to all. Visitors are always welcome, and our dress policy is “come as you are.”

Moravians have two sacraments:

  • Holy Communion: The Sacrament of Holy Communion (the Lord’s Supper) is offered during worship several times during the church year. All baptized adult Christians are invited to participate. Baptized children may take Holy Communion following confirmation or pastoral instruction with approval by the Board of Elders. Twice during the service we offer the “right hand of fellowship,” symbolic of the  unity we experience in partaking of the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
  • Baptism (infant, child or adult): Baptism is a reminder and affirmation of the salvation we know as the result of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice for us on the Cross. For infants and children, it is also a commitment by the parents, sponsors and congregation to raise and nurture the child in Christian love and community. Baptisms are performed during a regular worship service.
